This problem hit hardest for startups and mid-market companies lacking the engineering resources of Tesla or utility giants. The pain was measurable: integration projects took months instead of weeks, and maintaining connections across firmware updates consumed constant engineering effort. Alternatives existed but were inadequate—some companies built integrations manually, others purchased expensive enterprise software, and many simply abandoned cross-device functionality. Enode validated its approach early through rapid customer adoption from energy startups desperate for a faster path to market. The fact that multiple Series A-funded companies immediately became paying customers signaled genuine demand for a standardized connection layer.
