The team deliberately omitted EHR connectivity and physician workflow tools, betting that patients alone would drive adoption. This execution choice proved catastrophic. Hospitals couldn't feed patient data into the system, forcing manual entry and creating friction. More critically, Kyruus ignored that primary care physicians—not patients—controlled specialist referrals. Doctors had no incentive to use a patient-direct platform that bypassed them entirely. The warning signs appeared early: low physician adoption and minimal integration requests, yet leadership doubled down on the consumer angle. By 2020, Kyruus pivoted toward enterprise solutions, essentially admitting their original thesis was wrong. Their speed to market masked a fundamental misunderstanding of healthcare's gatekeeping dynamics, transforming their greatest strength into their most expensive liability.
