The problem was measurable through adoption rates of existing software and quantifiable compliance gaps. Alternatives included hiring full-time accountants (prohibitively expensive for small firms) or using basic spreadsheets (error-prone and time-consuming). However, Delegasi missed critical warning signs: they assumed receipt uploads would be frictionless when document quality and categorization remained challenging, underestimated the regulatory complexity of Indonesian accounting standards, and overlooked that business owners might distrust automated financial statements without human verification. The service required more human intervention than initially positioned, creating unsustainable unit economics that ultimately led to the company's inactivity post-YC Summer 2022.
